Manchester United made a late move to strengthen their midfield options on transfer deadline day, but their loan proposal to sign Conor Gallagher on loan was rejected by Atlético Madrid. The English midfielder, who has been instrumental for Diego Simeone’s side since joining the club from Chelsea two summers ago, was firmly on United’s radar as they sought reinforcements in their midfield.
Softfootball understands that the approach came in on deadline day, but Atlético made it clear they had no intention of letting the player leave. Gallagher has established himself as a key figure in Simeone’s midfield setup, making any departure which isn’t a permanent transfer was unlikely to be sanctioned. The reports of this deal comes after Manchester United earlier in the transfer window had an approach to brighton to sign top mifielder Carlos Baleba, which was rejected by the Seagulls.

According to transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, the confirmed the approach saying :
Manchester United have had a loan proposal rejected by Atlético Madrid for Conor Gallagher.
United asked for Gallagher but no plans for Atléti to let him leave on loan.
Same answer was received by Crystal Palace one week ago.
The rebuff by Atlético shows the trust they have in Gallagher, the midfielder has been a key player for the club in both La Liga and European competitions since he arrival. For United, it marked another frustrating moment in the transfer market as they failed to land a midfield signing before the window closed. Gallagher, meanwhile, will remain in Madrid, continuing his impressive run as one of Simeone’s most reliable players.
