Atletico Madrid open to selling ex-Chelsea star Conor Gallagher

Atletico Madrid are reportedly open to selling Conor Gallagher during this summer’s transfer window, just a year after signing him from Chelsea. The England international made the move to Atletico from Chelsea in August 2024, and he has represented the capital giants on 50 occasions, scoring 4 goals and registering 6 assists.

Gallagher was an important player for Atletico last season, but his future is already being called into question despite the fact that he has a contract at Wanda Metropolitano until the summer of 2029.

Despite his struggles to adapt to Atletico’s system, Gallagher helped Los Rojiblancos finish inside the Champions League places, but he faces an uncertain future due to Atletico’s midfield overhaul this summer.

According to Fichajes, Atletico are open to Gallagher’s departure, with Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers both believed to be considering bringing him back to the Premier League.

However, Diego Simeone’s side are likely to want at least €50m (£43m) for his services. The 25-year-old scored 10 goals and registered 10 assists in 95 appearances for Chelsea, while he is also a 22-time England international and will be hoping to be in the Three Lions squad for the 2026 World Cup.

It is understood by Softfootball that there haven’t been any significant offers for Gallagher, who is understood to be happy at Atletico and wants to fight for his place.

Simeone also views Gallagher as a key player for his project and appreciates his commitment, work rate and box-to-box abilities.

With Thomas Lemar and Rodrigo Riquelme heading towards the exit door and Rodrigo De Paul facing an uncertain future, Atletico should keep Gallagher to maintain their depth in the midfield.

Recall, Softfootball had previously reported that Atletico Madrid has confirmed signing of Álex Baena from Villarreal. Atletico Madrid have confirmed the signing of Álex Baena from Villarreal on a five-year deal, with the midfielder set to remain at the Wanda Metropolitano until June 2030.

Baena joined the Villarreal youth system after joining the Yellow Submarine in 2011. He made his first-team debut in July 2020 against Real Sociedad and has since grown into one of La Liga’s most creative midfielders.
