Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has been left out of Nigeria’s 2026 WAFCON squad due to injury, following Head Coach Justine Madugu’s announcement of the final 25‑player list on Friday, 10 July 2026. The tournament will run from 26 July to 16 August in Morocco as Nigeria aim to defend their continental crown.

Softfootball understands Plumptre is still undergoing rehabilitation and requires more time to fully recover before returning to competitive action, which led to her omission from Madugu’s squad.
Reacting to her absence, Plumptre expressed disappointment but emphasised that her body needs more time before she can compete again. She also urged Nigerians to support the team throughout the tournament.
Her statement read:
“The body is asking for more time and I’m listening. Sad to be missing this WAFCON yet hopeful in the prospect of getting to fight alongside these women again with the support of Nigerians everywhere when the body is ready to compete again.
So, in the meantime, back these women, back them on their quest for victory once more. Go easy on them, they need you. I am with you ladies. Naija no dey carry last!”
With Ashleigh Plumptre unavailable, the Super Falcons’ WAFCON 2026 squad features key names including captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Africa’s top goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, veteran defender Osinachi Ohale, midfield standout Jennifer Echegini, and star forward Asisat Oshoala.
