Arsenal Hails Jurrien Timber as Dutch Star Helps Netherlands Seal World Cup Spot

3 Min Read

Arsenal couldn’t hide their excitement this week; Jurrien Timber, who has been working his way back into rhythm, played a key role as the Netherlands officially booked their place at next year’s World Cup. And while the Dutch were practically guaranteed qualification already, they still wrapped things up in a way that felt, well, pretty comfortable.

Timber, who played the full 90 minutes for the Netherlands in their 1-1 draw with Poland, lined up at right-back at the Johan Cruyff Arena, looking sharp. Timber has been in fine form this season. He played for about 64 minutes before getting subbed off.

By that time, the Oranje were already cruising with a 4–0 lead. The goals came from Tijjani Reijnders, Cody Gakpo, Xavi Simons and Donyell Malen, all taken pretty well, and honestly, it never felt like Poland were going to pull off anything surprising.

Timber, the Arsenal defender who played the full 90 minutes in their recent 2-2 draw against Sunderland, as reported by Softfootball, later received congratulations from the club on their official X handle.

Jurriën Timber has been part of the Netherlands senior team since his debut in 2021, but recurring injuries have held him back from earning as many caps as many expected. That’s why every call-up and every minute he gets on the pitch feels genuinely important to him.

A few more Gunners could join that list soon. Spain only need a point against Turkey for Mikel Merino, Martin Zubimendi and David Raya to seal their spots. Belgium, with Leandro Trossard, could qualify with a win over Liechtenstein. And if Denmark manage just a draw in Scotland, Christian Nørgaard will also be booking his ticket.

But for today, the spotlight belongs to Timber a calm, composed outing, helping the Netherlands finish the job, and giving Arsenal another reason to celebrate during this international break
