Arsenal missed the chance to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool after being held to a frustrating 0 – 0 draw by Everton at the Emirates on Saturday.
The Gunners struggled to create clear-cut chances throughout the match against a well-organized Everton defense, with their best opportunity falling to Martin Odegaard in the first half, only for the Norwegian to be denied by Jordan Pickford.
Softfootball reports that Arsenal’s usual set-piece threat was also nullified, with Everton’s backline snuffing out several attempts from corners. The result leaves Arsenal third in the table on 30 points, six adrift of Liverpool at the summit.
Elsewhere, Newcastle United inflicted Ruud van Nistelrooy’s first defeat as Leicester manager with a comprehensive 4-0 win at St James’ Park, a match Wilfred Ndidi missed through a hamstring injury.
Ipswich Town also claimed a 2-1 away win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
