Arsenal announce Norgaard as signing number 3

Arsenal have announced the arrival of new midfielder, Christian Norgaard fom Brentford. Softfootball understands that Norgaard will be the Gunners’ third signing of this transfer window with early arrivals of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi.

The 31-year-old midfielder arrives from Brentford, where he made 196 appearances in all competitions, including 122 in the Premier League, scoring 13 goals and assisting 18 times and also captained the side for 2 years from 2023.

According to the Arsenal’s website, Christian started his career with Lyngby in his homeland, progressing through their youth academy and making his first-team debut aged 17. He then had a brief spell in Germany with Hamburg as an 18-year-old, before returning to Denmark in August 2013 to join Superliga club Brondby.

During his time there, Christian became an influential player, showcasing his natural leadership. He was voted as Player of the Year in 2017 and also helped the team lift the Danish Cup in 2017/18. During five years with Brondby, he made 147 appearances in all competitions, scoring 12 goals with nine assists.

Christian in his six seasons with the Bees, consistently showcased his strength and qualities from midfield, playing an integral role through one of the most successful periods in Brentford’s history, including promotion to the Premier League after a 74-year absence from the top flight.

Christian became captain ahead of the 2023/24 campaign and finished last season with his highest goal scoring tally in a single season, with six goals from defensive midfield. The Gunners are filling the spots left by Jorginho and Thomas Partey who both left the club this summer.

Arteta and Sporting Director, Andrea Berta have been working tirelessly in this transfer window to bring in targeted players to the club. Softfootball in earlier reports narrated how the North Londoners are still chasing Swedish striker, Viktor Gyokeres.

Arsenal are facing a torrid time in their attempts to reach an agreement with Sporting CP over the signing of coveted forward Viktor Gyökeres. The Gunners had walked away from a potential deal to sign Benjamin Šeško, instead opting to finalise a move for Gyökeres.

However, that decision may now backfire, as talks with Sporting have reportedly hit a deadlock, and hopes of sealing the deal are crumbling rapidly.
