Softfootball understands that Real Sociedad climbed five places in the LaLiga table after edging past Getafe 2–1 at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, dealing another blow to Los Azulones and stretching their poor run to six games without a win. It wasn’t pretty, far from it, but the visitors will hardly care.
Softfootball predicted a draw in the pregame report, following Getafe’s recent 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano.
The opening period was messy and disjointed, with the referee clearly uninterested in any theatrics from either side. Early on, Mauro Arambarri tried his luck from a distance in the second minute, though the effort never troubled Álex Remiro and set the tone for what followed.

Chances were rare, rhythm was absent, and the first 15 minutes passed with little to note. Real Sociedad gradually began to enjoy more of the ball, largely thanks to Takefusa Kubo’s clever movement down the right flank.
Even so, Getafe always had a release option in Mario Martín, which stopped the visitors from fully committing men forward.
Fouls kept breaking things up, and despite La Real holding a huge 74% possession by the half-hour mark, there was almost nothing happening in the boxes.

Then suddenly, out of nowhere, Brais Méndez struck a brilliant curling left-footed half-volley from just inside the area, sending the ball flying past David Soria. The goal barely matched the game, but it gave Sociedad a lead they’ll happily take.
Just before the break, Remiro almost gifted Getafe a lifeline, fumbling a low effort from Juan Iglesias, only to see the ball drift wide. After half-time, control remained elusive. Offside flags and soft free kicks killed any momentum, and clear chances were still at a premium.

Gonçalo Guedes and Carlos Soler both wasted half-openings for the visitors, while a dreadful Getafe back pass nearly let Mikel Oyarzabal in, though Soria stood firm. Pressure built, but Getafe kept hanging around. In the 90th minute, former Sociedad man Juanmi volleyed home from a free-kick routine to level things up, sparking brief hope.
That hope didn’t last long. Deep into stoppage time, Soria misjudged a corner, and Jon Aramburu nodded into an empty net.
Real Sociedad shared a video of their players celebrating the goal via their official X account.

A cruel ending for Getafe, but a vital one for Real Sociedad, who extend their unbeaten run and leapfrog their hosts on goal difference.
