André Onana is heading out of Manchester United after agreeing to a season-long loan move to Trabzonspor. The 29-year-old goalkeeper travelled to Turkey to complete his medical before being officially unveiled by the Super Lig side.
Softfootball understands that the deal runs until June 2026 and includes no loan fee or buy option. Onana is expected to return to Old Trafford next summer, although his future under manager Ruben Amorim looks uncertain. Amorim reportedly told the Cameroon international that he has no place in United’s plans following a string of costly errors, including a penalty shootout defeat to Grimsby.
United’s deadline-day capture of Belgian keeper Senne Lammens pushed Onana further down the pecking order, with Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton also on the books. The arrival of a fourth goalkeeper effectively sealed his exit.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed the update via his official X account, claiming that the deal is nearing completion.
He tweeted:
André Onana travels to Turkey in the next 24 hours together with his agent! Plan confirmed: he’s becoming new Trabzonspor player on loan from Man United until June 2026. No buy option clause or loan fee.

Despite the absence of a loan fee, Trabzonspor lure Onana with a hefty signing-on bonus and performance-related payments. Combined with Turkey’s flat 20% tax rate, his earnings are set to rise well above his £100,000-a-week United salary.
Onana, whose contract at Old Trafford runs until 2027, also considers the financial package crucial given his off-field commitments, including his André Onana Foundation.
The move offers the Cameroonian international regular football ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations in December, where he is expected to feature for his country.
For United, the deal brings clarity to their goalkeeping situation, while Trabzonspor secure an experienced shot-stopper with a point to prove.
