Softfootball understands that Manchester United head coach Rúben Amorim sparked a wave of debate online after insisting that no player in his squad has asked to leave the club.
Manchester United, who recently secured a 1-0 win over Newcastle United, followed that up with a 1-1 draw against Wolves this week. Since Amorim’s arrival, the team’s inconsistent results have sparked frustration and criticism from sections of the fanbase.

Speaking openly, Amorim dismissed claims of unrest within the squad, as reported by sports expert Fabrizio Romano on his official X account.
He posted:
Rúben Amorim, when asked if any players have asked to leave: No. NO player has asked to leave. I don’t expect them to.
While the comment was intended to project unity and stability, the reaction on social media quickly exposed how divided opinion remains around the current state of United’s squad.
Some fans interpreted Amorim’s words not as reassurance, but as a reflection of deeper problems. X user (@GamefiCrusher) responded with heavy sarcasm, suggesting the lack of exit requests has little to do with loyalty and far more to do with the squad’s perceived lack of market value.

In his view, players aren’t staying because they want to, but because they have nowhere else to go.
He claimed:
No player has asked to leave – Yeah because where would they even go? Most of this Man United squad is unsellable. Championship clubs wouldn’t take them. Amorim acting like it’s loyalty when it’s actually because nobody wants Antony, Casemiro, or Mount. Standards in the mud.
Others took a more analytical approach. Hans From Finance (@HansFromFinance) framed the situation in economic terms, arguing that inflated wages are the real reason players are staying put. According to him, the lack of exits isn’t about belief in the project but basic self-interest.

He said:
No one asked to leave, confirms the wages are above market clearing price. Why exit a trade that pays a premium for mediocrity? This isn’t loyalty, it is a liquidity trap. The external demand for these assets is zero. They are effectively squatting on the payroll.
Another section of the fanbase focused less on contracts and more on morale. (@manlike_francis) suggested that ambition doesn’t always show itself through transfer requests but through body language and belief slowly fading.
He stated:
Smh Amorim! With all due respect, this answer is exactly why fans are frustrated. Of course no one has asked to leave. players don’t need to. They can feel the stagnation. They can see the same issues week after week, the same gaps unaddressed, the same promises of trusting the process while results slide. Ambitious players don’t always bang on the door asking out, they quietly lose belief. The look on Mainoo’s face every time he’s being brought on. Says a lot.
Criticism also came directly at Amorim’s leadership. Krishna Anand (@KrishnaAnand_) accused the coach of poor management and warned that departures will come regardless of public unity.

He posted:
Of course they won’t ask to leave, but his absolute horrible management style will ensure some of them leave, and they should. He’s got no system, no plans, and no courage to do the right thing. Just ego.
Not all reactions were negative. ExtraTime | X (@wisal462) viewed Amorim’s comments as a necessary show of authority and focus.
He said:
Strong message from Amorim. That’s the kind of statement that shows unity no distractions, no exits, just focus on the project.
Amorim’s words may have been brief, but the response shows just how raw the mood around Manchester United remains. Whether unity or stagnation defines this squad will likely be decided not by words, but by results.
