Algeria arrive in the AFCON 2025 round of 16 with confidence after delivering a flawless group-stage campaign in Morocco. The Desert Warriors swept aside Sudan, Burkina Faso and Equatorial Guinea, scoring eight goals and conceding just once to finish as one of only two teams, alongside Nigeria, to win all three group matches.
Their dominance was underlined by a 3–1 victory over Equatorial Guinea that saw Algeria finish the AFCON group stage unbeaten, confirming both their attacking depth and defensive control, as Softfootball reported.
Vladimir Petkovic’s side also showed resilience earlier in the group with a narrow win over Burkina Faso that proved decisive in securing qualification for the AFCON 2025 knockout stage.
Having opened the scoring in each of their last six matches, Algeria will again be targeting a fast start as they look to extend their unbeaten run against Congo DR and push for a deep run reminiscent of their 2019 title-winning campaign.
Congo DR, however, pose a serious challenge after an impressive showing in Group D. Wins over Benin and Botswana, coupled with a draw against Senegal, saw the Leopards finish second on goal difference.
Sebastien Desabre’s men are unbeaten in eight matches, built on a compact defensive structure and an ability to control low-scoring games. Congo DR also confirmed their readiness on social media, posting on their X handle:
Two days before the match against Algeria 🇩🇿, our Leopards continue their preparation with seriousness and control… The batteries are recharging, the minds remain sharp.

Team News
Algeria are likely to be without Rayan Ait-Nouri, who was withdrawn in their final group game, while Jaouen Hadjam is ruled out with an ankle injury. Riyad Mahrez remains key after scoring three goals at the tournament, with Ibrahim Maza also in strong form.
Congo DR will assess Arthur Masuaku after he missed the Botswana win through injury, with Joris Kayembe on standby if required.
possible lineup

Softfootball Prediction
Algeria 2-1 Congo DR. Both sides have shown defensive discipline, but Algeria’s sharper attacking options and winning momentum from the group stage could give them the edge in what should be a closely contested knockout tie.
