Al-Hilal reach verbal agreement with Liverpool over Nunez

Darwin Nunez is on the verge of becoming new Al-Hilal striker, after the club reached a verbal agreement with Liverpool for his service, Softfootball reports.

The Uruguayan is surplus to requirement at Liverpool after the club signed Hugo Ekitike from Bundesliga outfit, Frankfurt and strong linked to Newcastle United forward, Alexander Isak.

Speaking via his official X handle, football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano claims that the deal is closer than ever. It just remains small details to be finalised.

Fabrizio revealed:

“EXCLUSIVE: Al Hilal are close to getting Darwin Nunez deal done after verbal agreement in place with Liverpool.

“Club to club agreement is done, while Al Hilal are in talks with Darwin over personal terms.

“Decision up to Nunez but talks underway, Inzaghi wants him.”

The personal terms should not be a problem to agree for Nunez and Al-Hilal. The completion of the deal would be a huge win for Saudi Arabian football.

Nunez netted five times last season in the premier league as the Reds won their 20th title to equal Manchester United’s record.

The Uruguayan scored only 11 goals in all competitions last season. Liverpool manager Arne Slot need more prolific strikers as they go for their title defence this season.

Al-Hilal has been on a striker search this summer and missed out on Simeone Inzaghi’s preferred striker, Victor Osimhen.

The Nigerian forward rejected a mouthwatering €700, 000 weekly to join the Saudi Arabian club, after they even agreed to meet Napoli’s €75million release clause for the player.

Osimhen always wanted to stay in Europe and compete with the best players. And got his wish as Galatasaray signed him on a four year deal.

Nunez was also linked to Napoli as Antonio Conte prepares for their title defense next season but no official bids were placed. Benfica, his old club also looked at the possibility of taking him on a season-long loan deal but Liverpool preferred to sell outrightly.

Nunez began his journey at Liverpool in 2022 and he may not be there for the start of next season if a deal is agreed with Al-Hilal this summer.
