Softfootball can reveal that Al Hilal are edging closer to sealing a blockbuster move for Darwin Núñez, with a full verbal agreement now in place between the Saudi club and Liverpool.
The structure of the deal has been finalised at club level, with Al Hilal prepared to meet Liverpool’s asking price after weeks of quiet negotiations. What remains is Darwin’s decision with personal terms currently being discussed between his camp and the Riyadh-based side.

While the deal is not signed yet, sources indicate that Al Hilal are confident. Talks are progressing positively, and Núñez has not shut the door on the move. The 25-year-old has been presented with a long-term proposal that would place him among the highest earners in the Saudi Pro League, should he agree to leave Anfield this summer.
According to transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, also shared this morning on his X handle of the propensity of the deal.
Fabrizio wrote on his X handle as follows:
“Al Hilal are close to getting Darwin Nunez deal done after verbal agreement in place with Liverpool.
Club to club agreement is done, while Al Hilal are in talks with Darwin over personal terms.
Decision up to Nunez but talks underway, Inzaghi wants him.”
New Al Hilal manager Simone Inzaghi is said to be a driving force behind the move, having personally requested the Uruguayan striker as a central figure in his attacking plans.
Liverpool, for their part, are ready to part ways with the former Benfica man, whose time at the club has been marked by flashes of brilliance but also inconsistency. Under new manager Arne Slot, the Reds are open to reshaping their frontline and believe Núñez’s potential departure could unlock space and funds for a more tactically aligned forward.
Liverpool have been eyeing Newcastle’s striker Alexander Isak which hasn’t been materialised because they needed to ship-off Nunez. As Softfootball had earlier reported, Liverpool proposed over £100 million for Isak but the Magpies refused indicating that their striker is above the initial proposal.
Since arriving at Liverpool in 2022 for a fee rising to £85m, Núñez has scored 33 goals in 96 appearances. His off-the-ball runs and relentless pressing made him a fan favourite at times, but there is a growing sense that a change of scenery could benefit all parties.
