Former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa stole the spotlight at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo despite Kano Pillars’ 2-0 defeat to Akwa United in their 2024/25 NPFL clash, Completesports.com reports.

Although Endurance Ebedebiri and Friday Apolos scored in either half to hand Akwa United their first victory of the season, it was Musa who became the centre of attention after the final whistle.

Making his second appearance since returning to Kano Pillars for a third spell, the experienced winger was greeted by jubilant fans who rushed onto the pitch to celebrate with the Super Eagles legend.

Supporters surrounded Musa, embracing him, taking photos, shaking his hands and lifting him in appreciation of his remarkable contribution to Nigerian football. The former Leicester City winger responded warmly, smiling and interacting freely with the fans before a Kano Pillars official eventually escorted him away from the crowd and into the dressing room.

One of the supporters, who identified himself simply as Umoh, praised Musa’s humility and willingness to connect with fans.

We love this guy (Musa), he’s humble. Others would have come here with bodyguards or been afraid to engage with the fans, some of whom came just to see him,

he said.

Interestingly, Musa wore the captain’s armband for Kano Pillars even though the club’s official captain, Rabiu Ali, was also on the pitch during the encounter.

Softfootball understands that Musa’s return to the NPFL has generated renewed excitement among supporters across the country. Despite the defeat in Uyo, the veteran forward’s popularity remains unmatched, with his presence continuing to attract large crowds and inspire younger players in the domestic league.
