AC Milan Seal €20m Deal for Belgian Defender Koni De Winter

AC Milan have officially landed Belgian centre-back Koni De Winter from Genoa in a permanent €20 million transfer, signing the 23-year-old on a five-year contract until June 30, 2030.

The deal, structured as an €18m base fee plus €2m in add-ons, comes just 24 hours after Milan completed the sale of Malick Thiaw to Newcastle United for around €40m. With a defensive gap to fill, the Rossoneri moved quickly to secure their new man.

AC Milan’s official X account rolled out the welcome with a series of posts before dropping De Winter’s first interview as a Milan player:

“Brace yourselves… De 𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓 has arrived in Milan #WelcomeDeWinter”

“Contract signed, future locked in #WelcomeDeWinter”

“Our new Belgian at the back #WelcomeDeWinter”

The former Juventus defender will wear the No. 5 shirt at San Siro and is expected to earn €1.8m per season over his five-year deal. Softfootball understands that Juventus will receive 20–25% of the transfer fee under a sell-on clause from their €8m sale of De Winter to Genoa in 2023.

De Winter’s Serie A résumé includes 68 appearances, three goals, and one assist. He made his senior debut under Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus, spent a loan season at Empoli in 2022–23, and has been a fixture in Italy since joining Juve’s youth ranks in 2018.

The Belgian international, capped three times, drew interest from Inter, Tottenham Hotspur, and Bournemouth before Milan clinched the deal. The Italian side will still be looking to add Manchester United flop striker Rasmus Højlund after the striker saw his position under massive threat following the arrival of Benjamin Šeško.

His arrival signals Milan’s intent to refresh their backline while keeping an eye on long-term stability, and for De Winter, it’s the biggest step yet in a career that has been steadily climbing since his teenage years in Turin.
