Negotiations between the clubs are now advanced, with optimism on Milan’s side that an agreement can be reached. The Italian club remains determined to land the 20-year-old right-back, who has already agreed to personal terms and is eager to make the move to Serie A.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via his X handle, AC Milan are pressing to secure Young Boys’ right-back Zachary Athekame. The Rossoneri’s initial €7m offer was rebuffed, but they’re poised to submit a fresh bid soon as negotiations advance swiftly.
He tweeted:
“AC Milan are prepared to improve their bid and close deal for Zachary Athekame.
“Young Boys informed Milan this morning that they want more than €7m initial bid.
“Athekame only wants Milan”.
This Swiss U21 international who is of Nigerian descent has also been subject of interest from Vincenzo Italiano’s Bologna and Kosta Runjaic’s Udinese. Milan however, are confident that they will be able to strike a deal with Young Boys in the near future.
Athekame made 45 appearances across all competitions for BSC Young Boys, with one goal and three assists to his name, having joined from Neuchatel Xamax FCS and is under contract with Young Boys until 2027. Milan are expected to return with an improved bid.
The Rossoneri are expecting to close the deal as soon as possible and bonuses can prove vital in making sure that the deal goes through. AC Milan sporting director, Igli Tare has an excellent relationship with Young Boys and this will be important especially if the next bid is accepted.
