Chelsea’s struggles this season have intensified scrutiny on recent signings who many believe have not lived up to expectations.

The club’s poor form contributed to the sacking of Enzo Maresca on 1 January 2026. However, even under new manager Liam Rosenior, performances have yet to show significant improvement.

Softfootball analysed four major signings:

  • Alejandro Garnacho – £40M
  • Pedro Neto – €60M (£51.4M)
  • Jamie Gittens – £48.2M
  • Liam Delap – £30M

The combined total stands at approximately £168.6 million, a figure some fans now describe as wasted investment.

Neto has arguably been the most impactful of the group, yet inconsistency and his red card against Arsenal on sunday 1st March 2026 have drawn criticism.

Delap, expected to solve Chelsea’s number nine concerns, has struggled with finishing and overall attacking contribution, prompting some fans to call for the return of Nicolas Jackson.

With heavy spending yet limited return on investment, Chelsea’s recruitment strategy remains a major talking point in a challenging campaign.
