Chelsea Consider Jackson Return as Bayern Loan Fails to Convince

3 Min Read

There are growing updates that Nicolas Jackson could be returning to Chelsea after his loan spell at Bayern Munich failed to convince the German side.

Jackson joined FC Bayern Munich from Chelsea on 1 September 2025 on a season-long loan deal, however, it is obvious that Bayern are not impressed with his performances, as he has mostly started games from the bench behind their preferred striker, Harry Kane.

Softfootball had previously highlighted the strong rapport between Cole Palmer and Jackson during their time together at Chelsea. That understanding is something the current Chelsea attackers are lacking, as neither Liam Delap nor João Pedro has shown the same level of synergy with Palmer.

Palmer, who scored a hat-trick in Chelsea’s 3:1 win over Wolves last week, has started to rediscover his form under new Chelsea coach Liam Rosenior. Rosenior now prefers a system with three deep midfielders Enzo Fernández, Moisés Caicedo and Santos giving Palmer more freedom higher up the pitch.

Chelsea’s need for Jackson is becoming clearer due to the poor performances of Gittens, Delap and Garnacho. While Jackson may not be a complete striker, Softfootball believes he offers more to the team in comparison to the current options.

If Jackson were still at Chelsea, there is little doubt he would have contributed at least two league goals and two assists, based on the way Chelsea currently play. Even when used from the left wing, Jackson offers qualities lacking in Garnacho and Gittens. He is a runner, can dribble past players, press aggressively, retain the ball and link play effectively.

While Jackson’s biggest weakness remains goal scoring, his strength lies in creating chances for teammates. Some critics point to his red cards in big games, but mistakes are part of football. Even legends have faltered in key moments players fumble, learn and grow.

With Chelsea pushing for Champions League qualification, a Jackson return could provide balance, movement and creativity that the current attacking setup is missing.
