Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly popularly known as Ant and Dec have both revealed that the best day of their lives is watching Newcastle United win the Carabao Cup which was the first time they’ve ever witnessed such happen at their boyhood club, Softfootball understands.
The feat was seen as a miracle which was performed by manager Eddie Howe and his wards on a biggest of pure joy and glory. The Magpies beat favourites Liverpool in fantastic fashion. Dan Burn opened scoring and Alexander Isak added another seven minutes into the second half to send the fans at Wembley into wide jubilations.
Italy international, Federico Chiesa came on and gave the Reds a late consolation goal as Newcastle held on to win the 2025 Carabao Cup inside the beautiful Wembley stadium.
As guest of the Overlap’s official podcast, Ant and Dec glowingly talked about how they felt witnessing it all go down. Ant said:
It was the best day of our lives. I’ve told the kids and my wife, it’s the best day of my life (Seeing Newcastle United lift the Carabao Cup).
Dec, who was sitting very close to him inside the studio joined in on the conversation. He added:
We’ve been there before where we got beaten by Manchester United and we be like, is it going to be the same all over again. And we were just the better team… And we haven’t ever seen that as a Newcastle United fan, in our life time as we were born in 1975 and so, the last trophy was 1969.
This season, Newcastle are in the semifinal again but the Magpies already lost the first leg to Manchester City 2-0 at Saint James’ Park but have the opportunity of still qualifying for the final of the competition if they can beat Manchester City 3-0 in the second leg at the Etihad.
Just at the weekend Newcastle lost 2-0 against Aston Villa and their form are not looking great in recent times but Cup competitions deliver surprise results and they can’t be ruled out just yet.
