Renato Veiga sees red as Barcelona beat Villarreal to maintain top spot

Renato Veiga saw red as 10-man Villarreal lost 2-0 to Barcelona in the Match-Day 18 of LaLiga at the Estadio de la Cerámica, Softfootball.

Barcelona beat Osasuna 2-0 last weekend and also defeated Guadalajara by the same scoreline in the Copa dey Rel. So, they entered the game against the Yellow Submarine in high confidence.

The Catalan giants shared the result with fans via their official X handle. It was a remarkable result for Barcelona as they restored their four points lead over Real Madrid, who defeated Sevilla 2-0 on Saturday night.

In a recent interview, Hansi Flick revealed that he is open to extending his contract with Barcelona and showed his readiness to lead the club to glory this season with a solid lineup.

Barcelona began the game in solid fashion as Raphinha was brought down by Santi Comesana in the 12th minute. He stood up and finished with aplomb. It went from bad to worse for the home side as Villarreal were reduced to 10-men in the 39th minute when former Chelsea defender Renato Veiga was shown a straight red card for bad tackle from behind on Spain superstar Lamine Yamal.

In the 63rd minute, Yamal ensured Barcelona closed the game with three points as he scored from a goal-mouth melee to make it 2-0. Although, Barcelona dominated possession especially after Villarreal were reduced to 10-men, they still gave account of themselves in the very dramatic encounter.

Barcelona are firmly on top of LaLiga table with 46 points, four points above bitter rivals Real Madrid in second while Villarreal after suffering their first defeat in six matches remain fourth with 35 points after 18 matches.
