Manuel Neuer’s Future Uncertain as Bayern Wait for Contract Update

Softfootball understands that Manuel Neuer’s future at Bayern Munich is still hanging a bit in the air, and the goalkeeper isn’t rushing anything. Even though there were earlier whispers about a done deal, as reported by Fabrizio Romano via his official X account.

He said:

Manuel Neuer on contract due to expire in June: I would like to take my time with that.

It’s really about taking the moment to say, okay, how is my body doing? What’s my health like? Does it make sense to continue? I need a bit more time

Neuer has now made it clear that he wants more time before he commits to anything serious. With his contract running out in June 2026, he’s basically taking a step back to judge how his body is holding up.

He admitted he needs the right moment to say if continuing makes sense, which is fair considering he’s played football at the highest level for so long.

Neuer has already started 16 of the 20 matches under Vincent Kompany. That workload probably explains why he’s being extra careful about the next step in his career.

Talks between him and the club have been pushed towards December 2025, which is when both sides expect a clearer answer.

Softfootball reported that after a strong start to the season, Bayern experienced their first loss, going down 3-1 to Arsenal in the Champions League.

The club still value Neuer a lot, even with the mistake in a 2-2 draw against Union Berlin that sparked fresh conversations about his future. The earlier idea of an extension with a lower base salary and some performance add-ons is still there, but the club are quietly hoping he’ll stay at least one more year.

At the same time, Bayern know they can’t avoid the long-term plan forever. Alexander Nübel, out on loan until 2026, is still seen as the one who might eventually take over, although no one can assure he is a guaranteed successor yet. Neuer’s presence around the squad still matters.

So everything basically comes down to how Neuer feels over the next weeks. Bayern want clarity, the fans want a bit of reassurance, and Neuer wants to make the decision without forcing it.
