Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has stepped forward to defend summer signing Xavi Simons, who has surprisingly been left out of the starting XI for the club’s last three matches. The Dutch midfielder arrived in a £50 million move from RB Leipzig, starting brightly under Frank before hitting a difficult patch in form, Softfootball reports.

Despite his talent, Simons is still yet to score his first goal for his new club, raising questions among fans about his adaptation to Premier League life.

Spurs are preparing for a crucial showdown against Newcastle tomorrow, and the discussion around Simons’ role has only intensified. Many supporters expected the 21-year-old to be a key figure by now, especially after such a strong start, but his struggles have led to mounting criticism on social media.

According to Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, Frank calmly addressed the concerns surrounding Simons’ recent absence, he said:

He needs a bit of adaptation. There is a reason why we have Xavi here, he’s a very good player. He has trained very well. It is not the first time a player has stepped into the Premier League and needs to adapt.

But the Spurs manager wasn’t done fielding tough questions. With some sections of the fanbase expressing frustration after a mixed run of results, Frank responded firmly to suggestions that he may be losing the fans.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, Frank replied:

If you want to say I’m losing the fans… how many is that, 5, 10, 15, 20 per cent? Of course, we’d like to get all 100 per cent on board. I think all the fantastic fans we have believe they’re true Spurs fans.

Despite the noise, Tottenham remain focused on bouncing back and stabilizing their form, and Frank continues to express full confidence in Simons’ long-term future at the club. The manager believes the young star will eventually prove why Spurs invested heavily in him but for now, patience and support will be key as the midfielder finds his feet in England’s most demanding league
