Newcastle Coach Eddie Howe reveals why he likes youngster Lewis Miley

Newcastle United Coach, Eddie Howe has revealed why he likes youngster Lewis Miley and trusts him enough to hold down a first team place, Softfootball reports.

The 19-year-old started at the weekend as Newcastle hammered Everton 4-1 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Miley scored and assisted a goal in that match and left his manager very impressed.

Speaking ahead of the game against Tottenham Hotspur at Saint James’ Park via the club’s official X handle, Eddie Howe was full of positives for the youngster. He said:

He’s there on merit and he’s fighting for a starting place. He’s impressing me with how he’s training and how he’s preparing himself for every opportunity he gets. It was a big moment for him on Saturday. He wanted the ball, he was very good with the ball, that was key for us. He played with calmness and control. He set a goal up, scored a goal – it couldn’t have gone any better, really.

Lewis Miley, who signed his first professional contract in 2023 has already played over 50 matches for his childhood club and he is seen in many quarters as the future captain of Newcastle United.

The Magpies has been in fantastic form recently and chasing down a Champions League spot this season despite not starting the season very well. Newcastle United’s 2-1 win over Manchester City made fans and pundits pay attention to the team.

Newcastle United are currently placed 13th on the premier league table with 18 points, same points as Tuesday’s opponent, Tottenham Hotspur and a win will take them above Spurs.
