Aston Villa’s brilliant form rolled on as they secured a 2-1 win over BSC Young Boys in the Europa League league phase, marking their 10th victory in 12 matches across all competitions.
Softfootball expected Aston Villa to make light work of Young Boys, and despite predicting both teams to score in the pregame report, you wouldn’t have expected the encounter to be this close.

Unai Emery’s side, who have turned Villa Park into something close to a fortress, once again showed why they’re among the most in-form teams in Europe right now; this is now four victory in a row with the most emphatic one a 4-0 victory over Bournemouth.
Young Boys arrived in England already fighting history, they had never won in six previous visits (D2, L4), while Villa had a perfect record at home in Europe throughout 2025. Right from kick-off, it felt like that pattern might continue.

Within minutes, Donyell Malen smashed a fierce shot that forced Marvin Keller into a sharp save, and not long after, Jadon Sancho curled another effort that again tested the alert Swiss goalkeeper.
For a brief spell, the visitors began to settle, but Villa’s pressure eventually broke through. In the 27th minute, Youri Tielemans floated a clever ball into the area, and Malen darted in, guiding a tidy header inside the near post.
Villa’s confidence only grew from there. Soon after, Morgan Rogers bulldozed through midfield, slipped a pass to Malen, and the Dutch forward fired in his second with a clinical finish.

After halftime, Villa stayed firmly on the front foot. Sancho forced another save, and Malen even had the ball in the net again, only for VAR to chalk it off for offside.
Emery then opted to rotate heavily, resting key players with one eye on the weekend clash against Wolves, which also meant Malen missed a chance for a hat-trick; however, he was given the accolades his performance deserves, with Villa hailing the performance in a post made via their official X account.

Young Boys barely threatened, mustering only one off-target shot until late on. A nervy moment arrived when Chris Bedia thought he had pulled one back, but VAR intervened again for a tight offside.
That seemed to refocus Villa, though the visitors did finally score in the 90th minute through Jöel Monteiro to set up a tense finish.
Still, Villa held firm through stoppage time and deservedly took all three points, pushing themselves into second place in the group, level with Midtjylland, and keeping their impressive momentum rolling.
