By PSG’s standards, this season has been a bit below expectations, coupled with their key player being ruled out due to injuries, as Softfootball reported earlier. They’ve dominated French football for years, winning seven of the last eight Ligue 1 titles with ease, yet they came into this clash sitting third in the table, one point behind Marseille. A win in Lyon would restore them to the top, and they started with clear intent, controlling possession and territory early on.

Chances were hard to come by in the opening exchanges, though Willian Pancho went close with a header that flew just over. But PSG can create danger in a heartbeat, and that’s exactly what happened when Vitinha sent a clever ball over the top for Warren Zaïre-Emery, who smashed home from a tight angle to make it 1-0 in the 26th minute of the game.

Lyon, however, didn’t back down. They’ve quietly put together a strong campaign, and within 4 minutes, they were level. Alfonso Moreira calmly slotting past Lucas Chevalier after a sharp through pass from Moussa Niakhaté. PSG regained their lead soon after when Vitinha dispossessed Tanner Tessmann and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia curled in beautifully from inside the area. The visitors held on to their narrow lead through the first half of the game.

The second half began with more drama. Ainsley Maitland-Niles caught Chevalier off his line with a clever lob to make it 2-2, sending the home fans wild. The game settled for a while, with both sides trading half-chances. Kang-in Lee came closest for PSG, forcing a sharp save from Dominik Greif.

Lyon’s hopes faded late on when Tagliafico saw red for a second yellow in stoppage time. From the resulting corner, João Neves rose highest to head past Greif and seal all three points for the Champions League winners – such an important victory for the Parisians. an interesting game which psg posted on their official X handle, expressing how interesting the game turned out.

It was a gutting finish for Lyon, who’ve now won just one of their last six matches, while PSG’s resilience keeps them right in the title mix, with one defeat in ten across all competitions, showing they still mean business.
