Manchester United icon Roy Keane has stirred debate after naming Diego Simeone as his ideal choice to take over at Old Trafford, claiming the passionate Atlético Madrid manager would “create havoc” but in a positive way. The comments come amid one of the most challenging spells in Manchester United’s recent history, as the team continues to falter under Ruben Amorim, Softfootball reports.
United’s performances have been far from convincing this season, with disjointed displays, lack of identity, and a worrying slide down the Premier League table. Softfootball understands that Ruben Amorim currently holds the worst win rate of any Manchester United manager since World War II, having managed only seven wins in his first 29 league games.

The once-proud Red Devils now look a shadow of their former selves, struggling to impose themselves even against mid-table sides.
Despite the growing unrest among fans, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the United hierarchy have chosen to back the Portuguese coach. Ratcliffe, who recently increased his influence at the club as minority owner, has publicly stated that Amorim will be given time to implement his vision.
The billionaire businessman insists patience is key, arguing that the rebuilding process at Old Trafford will take more than just a few transfer windows. Still, the decision has divided supporters, some view it as stability, others as stubbornness.

For Keane, though, the issue isn’t just results, it’s mentality. A fierce competitor and leader during his days as United captain, Keane definately knows what it takes to inspire a winning dressing room. During his playing career, he was the ulitmate embodiment of discipline and drive, helping United secure multiple Premier League titles and the famous 1999 treble.
It’s no surprise, then, that he believes a manager with Simeone’s intensity and ruthlessness could reignite those lost values at Manchester United.
Speaking on The Overlap Podcast shared via the official X account, Roy Keane said:
If the managerial role ever opened up, I’ve always said I’d love to see Diego Simeone take it. He’d cause havoc but havoc in a good way. His style of play would fit perfectly, and he’s not as defensive as people think.

The Argentine has spent over a decade transforming Atlético Madrid into one of Europe’s toughest sides , blending tactical rigidness with emotional fire. And while his style may be divisive, Keane’s point is hard to ignore which is United no longer inspire fear or command respect.
Interestingly, Still on The Overlap podcast Roy keane had a lot of other talking points on who should be the next United’s manager alongside Ex premier league stars including, Garry Neville and Ian wright, watch their full opinion below;

It's fair to say Roy would love to see this manager in the Man Utd dugout! 🔴 pic.twitter.com/6uTTlf0r1N
Softfootball understands that the conversation around Manchester United’s leadership will only intensify if performances fail to improve. As the club drifts further from its golden standards, Keane’s call for “controlled chaos” might just capture what many fans are thinking that perhaps only a manager like Simeone can bring back the fight that once defined Old Trafford.
