Anthony Elanga was at the heart of Newcastle United’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League, both through his performance on the pitch and his reflections afterwards, Softfootball reports.

Since Elanga joined Newcastle in the summer transfer window from Nottingham Forest for a record £55 million, he’s been doing exceptionally well, and tonight’s performance proves it, as he marked his first goal contribution in an official setting.

We then need to keep that going and let the football do the talking.

We played a good game from top to bottom. We need to build on this and carry it on in the Premier League, cup games and Champions League.

It is important that we keep scoring goals the way that we did [tonight] and have that fluidity.

Elanga played a key role in the commanding display. His early cross caused problems for the Union defence, eventually leading to Sandro Tonali’s opener via a deflection off Nick Woltemade. Later, his direct running inside the box earned Newcastle a penalty, which Anthony Gordon converted to double the advantage before half-time.  Gordon added a second penalty, and Harvey Barnes rounded off the scoring with a composed finish to seal the club’s first Champions League away win since 2003.
