Nicolas Jackson sends message of intent to Chelsea squad ahead of Bayern clash

Nicolas Jackson is looking forward to meeting his former teammates from Chelsea as Bayern Munich host the Blues next week Wednesday in their first match of the UEFA Champions League.

Jackson departed Stamford Bridge on a season-long loan during the summer transfer window, and has now sent a message to his old teammates ahead of the Bayern Munich clash.

Despite some late drama following Liam Delap’s injury, the Senegal international joined Bayern Munich after Chelsea signed Joao Pedro and Delap himself.

Jackson will play for the Bundesliga outfit this season, and the German giants will be obligated to make the deal permanent if Jackson starts 40 games this season.

However, the Senegal international won’t have to wait until next summer to see his Chelsea teammates, as the Blues play Bayern Munich on Wednesday in the opening game of the Champions League.

Chelsea tried to cancel Jackson’s move to Bayern late on following Liam Delap’s hamstring injury against Fulham, but he did eventually seal the switch to the German giants on an initial season-long loan with an obligation-to-buy for £70million.

According to Fabrizio Romano via his X handle, Nicolas Jackson has expressed his excitement ahead of facing his former club in the Champions League next week, as Bayern Munich prepare to host Chelsea. The striker admitted he is eager for the Bundesliga giants to come out on top against the Premier League side. The post reads:

Nico Jackson on facing Chelsea

next week: I’m very happy to see my friends and teammates from Chelsea. Hopefully we have a good game and we win.

Vincent Kompany’s team will square it out against the Blues in their first game back in the Champions League, a competition that Jackson helped them qualify for last season, but questions have been raised over whether he will be able to play against his parent club.

Ofcourse, Jackson can play against Chelsea for Bayern, as according to UEFA‘s Statement on Integrity of Competitions, clubs playing in their three competitions cannot insert clauses that prevent their own players from facing them in European games.

They particularly state that no club can be involved in any capacity whatsoever in the management, administration and/or sporting performance of any other club participating in a UEFA club competition or have any power whatsoever in the management, administration and/or sporting performance of any other club participating in a UEFA club competition.

Nicolas Jackson could then, join a list of players who have netted against their parent clubs in the Champions League in years gone by, with notable examples such as Philippe Coutinho scoring against Barcelona for Bayern in 2020, as well as Kingsley Coman against Juventus for the German giants in 2016.
