Liverpool captain, Virgil van Dijk has shared his thoughts after Reds’s defeat to Crystal Palace in the Community Shield final on Sunday, and what the the team must do if they want to retain Premier League title in the coming season.
Softfootball reported earlier that Liverpool drew 2-2 with Palace at Wembley, despite twice taking the lead through new signings Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong, and were then defeated on penalties by a 3-2 margin.

Liverpool are looking to defend their Premier League title and Van Dijk was not happy with how his side began the season. In his post-match interview following the disappointing outing against Palace as seen on Liverpool official website, the skipper said:
“We all have plenty of experience, winning and losing. What kind of impact it should have is that we realise we need a couple of things that we have to improve as a team if we want to retain the title, which obviously will be a very big job in itself.
“We have a recovery day tomorrow and then we fully focus on Bournemouth, which will be a very tough game. But I’m really looking forward to the start of the Premier League.
“Friday at home with our fans, we know it’s going to be emotional obviously with everything that is going on and happened. But I’m really looking forward to it.”
Hoping to retain their Premier League title in 2025-26 season, Liverpool are also facing the challenge of integrating two new full-backs, as well as balancing a new look midfield featuring record signing Florian Wirtz, and improve as a team as Virgil van Dijk rightly stated.
