RB Leipzig has opened discussions with Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott over a potential transfer, with the 22-year-old emerging as the German club’s priority target to replace the departing Xavi Simons, Softfootball understands.
Talks have now progressed to the stage of contract negotiations, with Leipzig keen to present a long-term project that puts Elliott at the heart of their attacking rebuild.
The Bundesliga side is moving decisively, having already lost Simons, who’s set to join Chelsea, and Elliott is viewed as the ideal successor in terms of profile, age, and technical ceiling.

According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, he posted the news on his X handle about the Bundesliga club’s interest in Elliott.
He wrote on his X handle as this:
“RB Leipzig have started discussing contract terms with Harvey Elliott as a priority target to replace Xavi Simons. Discussions are ongoing; we are waiting to understand the player’s decision.”
Sources close to the deal told Softfootball that Elliott has yet to make a final decision, but Leipzig are doing all they can to convince him. Softfootball also reported the deal, stating that Leipzig had begun an official conversation for Elliott.
The deal also got thicker after Leipzig club executives identified the England U21 international as a player who fits perfectly into the club’s philosophy. Leipzig has been tracking Elliott, especially based on his performances last season, where he featured for Liverpool 26 times across all competitions, scoring five times.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is said to value Elliott at £50 million, a price tag that could be a sticking point for RB Leipzig. His current market value is closer to €30 million, making negotiations tricky.
Leipzig’s financial flexibility may hinge on the sale of Simons and Benjamin Šeško, who is set to join Manchester United this week.
Leipzig also sees Elliott as a good deal, especially at the asking price placed by Liverpool for the young prospect.
