Pep want Barcelona’s Ter Stegen as Ederson’s replacement

Manchester City may have identified their Ederson successor, with Pep Guardiola reportedly mulling over a raid on Barcelona for Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Softfootball gathered that City are facing a hard period keeping their first choice for next season.

The Brazil international, Ederson continues to see questions asked of his future after eight years at the Etihad Stadium as the Premier League and Champions League winner has been linked with teams in Turkey and the Saudi Pro League.

If the 31-year-old were to move on, then Guardiola would want another proven performer to provide his last line of defence.

According to AS, City are considering an approach for Ter Stegen. That is because he has slipped behind veteran Polish shot-stopper Wojciech Szczesny and summer signing Joan Garcia in Barcelona’s pecking order.

The Blaugrana are eager to get Ter Stegen’s wages off their books, with Hansi Flick reportedly informing the German, who has World Cup selection to think about in 2026, that he is free to move on.

With Barca’s financial struggles, they are looking to offload some high wage earners in the team and Andre happens to be on the list.

Reports from Barcelona says Ter Stegen is not training with the rest of the team as they prepare for preseason which shows that he is totally out of the squad.

Galatasaray are also in the mix as they are in search of a new goalkeeper after the departure of their number 1, Muslera who had been at the club for 14 years. The Turkish champion are ready to offer Ter Stegen a four year deal with a high wage so far his Barca deal is terminated mutually.

Softfootball has been following the news of Ter Stegen at Barcelona. The German is not the only player forced to leave the club this summer as 5 players were listed to be unwanted at Camp Nou next season.

While much of the attention around Barcelona focuses on new signings during the summer transfer window, the departures could prove just as crucial, especially with the club’s ongoing battle to stay within La Liga’s salary cap.

Five players are currently on the chopping block as manager Hansi Flick and Deco, the director of football, work swiftly to reshape the squad and balance the books. Apart Ter Stegen, Inaki Pena, Pau Victor, Oriol Romeou, Andreas Christensen are the other players on the list.
