Fiorentina brings back Edin Dzeko to the Serie A

Fiorentina have brought back Bosnia-Herzegovina striker Edin Dzeko to Serie A after completing his free transfer to the club. Softfootball understands that with this new deal, Dzeko will be playing into his 40s.

Dzeko was most recently at Fenerbahce, where he scored 21 goals in 53 games last season before leaving the Turkish club in May. Dzeko challenged for the Turkish League and reached the quarter final of the Europa League last season.

The BBC reported that the Bosnia-Herzegovina national team captain signed a year deal with an automatic option to extend (if necessary conditions are met) with the Serie A side.

The striker was part of Manchester City’s reinvigoration group when he joined in 2011. Dzeko scored 72 goals in 189 games over five years, winning two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield. He then had spells at Roma where he played 168 matches and scored 77 goals.

He left AS Roma for Inter Milan, made 69 appearances for the Blue and Black netting 22 times. He won four trophies at Inter including the Coppa Italia twice (2022 and 2023), SuperCoppa Italia twice (2021 and 2022) and was beaten by old club City in the 2023 UEFA Champions League final. Dzeko joined Fenerbahce in 2023 where he spent two seasons but did not win any trophy.

Fiorentina finished sixth in Serie A last season, securing their place in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers hence needing Dzeko’s experience as he would be a leader to Moise Kean and other strikers in the squad. Fiorentina becomes the third club Dzeko is playing for in the Serie A.

Softfootball had been following Fiorentina’s activities in the transfer window and reported that Manchester United wanted their striker, Moise Kean. Manchester United are in contact to sign Fiorentina forward Moise Kean this summer as they continue their search for a new striker.

United are “regularly in touch” with Fiorentina as they monitor the situation of former Everton forward Moise Kean, who has finally started to live up to his potential with the Serie A side over the past season.
