Ahead of the 2025/206 Premier League season, Scott Parker will be without his captain Josh Brownhill who has now become a free agent after expiration of his contract with the Clarets. Burnley returned to Gawthorpe today after an 8 weeks holiday as they prepare for the new season kicking off in August.
Softfootball understands that July 1 is the final day of Brownhill’s contract with Burnley. The midfielder scored 18 times as Burnley not only picked an automatic ticket to the Premier League but were crowned champions of the Championship.

Big teams like Everton, West Ham and Rangers will be looking to sign up the now free agent if nothing changes in a couple of days as Burnley have laid new contractual terms on the table.
Brownhill had jokingly stressed that he wanted his contract situation sorted out as soon as possible in May while Burnley were celebrating their promotion in May.
That’s what I am hoping for
he teased when asked about contract extension.
If anybody can message the authorities and get it sorted quicker rather than later, that would be better.
Amid the battle to keep their captain, Scott Parkers’ men will spend the next days in East Lancashire before flying off to Portugal for more preparations. They would return to take on Huddersfield Town and Shrewsbury Town respectively on July 26th after which they take on Championship side, Stoke City.
Recall, Softfootball had previously reported Axel Tuanzebe is set to continue his Premier League journey with Burnley, following his departure from Ipswich Town on a free transfer. The 27-year-old defender has reportedly undergone a medical at Turf Moor and is expected to be unveiled soon by the newly-promoted Clarets.
Tuanzebe played a crucial role at Ipswich across two seasons, initially helping the club secure promotion from the Championship in 2023. Despite Ipswich’s relegation back to the second tier the following season, the DR Congo international remained a reliable presence, making 22 Premier League appearances in the 2024–25 campaign.
