As Nigeria celebrates its 66th Independence Anniversary today, October 1, 2026, Softfootball joins millions of Nigerians at home and around the world in celebrating the nation’s journey since independence from British colonial rule on October 1, 1960.
For Softfootball, the occasion is also an opportunity to reflect on its growing commitment to telling the story of Nigerian football and bringing the game closer to supporters both at home and across the world.
On June 21, 2026, at 3:36 pm, Softfootball launched Softfootball Nigeria, marking a significant expansion of its mission to provide dedicated Nigerian football coverage to a global audience.
The platform is built around the passion, talent and stories that continue to make Nigerian football an important part of the country’s identity, from the Super Eagles and Super Falcons to the country’s youth teams, domestic football and Nigerian players competing around the world.
That commitment was further demonstrated in September when Softfootball had a journalist on the ground in Uyo to cover Nigeria’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
The Super Eagles came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Madagascar on Friday, September 25, 2026, with debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor scoring for Nigeria after Madagascar had taken an early lead.

The Uyo assignment allowed Softfootball to provide first-hand coverage of the match, including the atmosphere around the stadium, interviews, reactions, photographs and reports, strengthening the platform’s commitment to bringing Nigerian football stories directly to its audience.
As Nigeria marks 66 years of independence, Softfootball celebrates not only the country but also the people, passion and sporting culture that continue to shape its identity.
Happy 66th Independence Anniversary, Nigeria! 🇳🇬
From all of us at Softfootball, we celebrate Nigeria, we celebrate Nigerian football, and we remain committed to telling its stories to the world.
