Portugal continued their impressive start to the UEFA Nations League with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Denmark at Parken.
The defending champions arrived in Denmark amid significant attention surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo, following reports of a disagreement with coach Jorge Jesus that led to the veteran forward leaving the squad.
However, Portugal put the off-field drama to one side and produced another impressive attacking performance, showing they have enough quality to compete at the highest level even without their all-time leading goalscorer. The result follows Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Norway, a match in which Ronaldo was left on the bench.
Portugal made a fast start and took the lead after just 13 minutes through Joao Cancelo. The full-back found the breakthrough as Portugal’s attacking movement began to trouble the Danish defence, giving the visitors an early advantage at Parken.
Denmark responded quickly, though, with Mikkel Damsgaard producing a superb finish in the 23rd minute to bring the hosts level. The equaliser gave Denmark renewed confidence, but Portugal continued to create chances and regained the lead two minutes later.
Goncalo Ramos rose to the occasion in the 25th minute, producing a composed finish to put Portugal 2-1 ahead. Despite falling behind again, Denmark remained dangerous and continued to test Portugal’s defence.
Denmark came out strongly after the interval and were rewarded eight minutes into the second half. Rasmus Hojlund found the net in the 53rd minute to make it 2-2, setting up an exciting final period with both sides searching for the decisive goal.
Portugal eventually regained control through their midfield. Vitinha scored his first goal for Portugal in the 67th minute, restoring the visitors’ advantage and putting them back in front at 3-2.
Denmark attempted to respond, but Portugal’s greater attacking depth eventually proved decisive. Joao Felix, introduced from the bench, completed the scoring in the 87th minute to seal a 4-2 victory for Portugal.
One of the biggest talking points before kick-off was Rafael Leao wearing Portugal’s iconic No. 7 shirt, previously synonymous with Cristiano Ronaldo. With Ronaldo absent from the squad, Leao was handed the number and responded with a lively display, offering Portugal pace and directness in the final third.

Bruno Fernandes was also central to Portugal’s performance, controlling the tempo and providing creativity from midfield. The Manchester United midfielder received the highest rating among the Portugal players, while Goncalo Ramos and Vitinha also impressed during an attacking display that produced 19 shots and 11 efforts on target.
For Denmark, Damsgaard was the standout performer despite the defeat, while Hojlund also made an impact with his second-half equaliser. Portugal’s victory keeps them firmly at the top of their Nations League group with a perfect record, while Denmark will have to regroup after another difficult result.
With four different players finding the net, Portugal once again demonstrated the attacking depth available to Jesus as they continue their title defence.
