José Mourinho has visited Raúl Asencio in hospital following the Real Madrid defender’s successful surgery on a stress fracture in his right tibia.
Real Madrid confirmed on Thursday that Asencio underwent the operation under the supervision of the club’s medical services. Mourinho subsequently visited the 23-year-old at the hospital to check on his condition and offer his support.

The injury represents another setback for Asencio, who has yet to make an official appearance for Real Madrid this season. The defender had already missed the start of the campaign with a muscle injury before returning to the squad in September.
Softfootball understands that Asencio is expected to face a recovery period of around two to four months following the operation. Reports indicate that the timeline could keep him out of action until 2027, although Real Madrid have not yet provided an official return date.
The timing is particularly difficult for Mourinho, with Real Madrid already managing several defensive absences. The Portuguese coach will now have to continue without another central defensive option as the team navigate the season.
Asencio’s stress fracture had been causing persistent problems, with conservative treatment ultimately failing to resolve the issue. Surgery was therefore chosen as the next step, with the defender now set to begin his rehabilitation.
The club confirmed that the procedure was successful and that Asencio will begin his recovery process in the coming days.
For Mourinho, the priority will now be ensuring the young defender makes a full recovery rather than rushing his return. If the expected timeline is maintained, Real Madrid could be without Asencio until the beginning of 2027.
