David Alaba is on his way to Italy to complete his move to Udinese after reaching an agreement with the Serie A club, Softfootball reports.
The former Real Madrid defender is expected to undergo his medical tests before signing his contract, with the remaining formal steps to be completed afterwards. Udinese have already confirmed the move through a social media post teasing Alaba’s arrival with the iconic white chair associated with his Real Madrid celebrations.
The 34-year-old Austrian will join Udinese as a free agent after bringing his five-year spell at Real Madrid to an end this summer. Real Madrid officially announced in May that both parties had agreed to end his time at the club at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.
Alaba made 131 appearances for Real Madrid and won 11 trophies during his time at the Santiago Bernabéu, including two Champions League titles and two La Liga crowns.
Softfootball understands that Alaba’s arrival will bring considerable experience to an Udinese defence that has struggled at the beginning of the Serie A campaign. The Austrian’s versatility allows him to operate at centre-back, left-back or in midfield, providing additional options for the Italian side.
His departure from Madrid also represents another change in the club’s defensive department as Real Madrid continue to reshape their squad following the exits of several experienced players.
Alaba spent the final stages of his Madrid career battling injury problems, but he remained an important figure in Austria’s 2026 World Cup campaign, starting all four of the team’s matches.
The Udinese move now gives the veteran defender an opportunity to begin a fresh chapter in Serie A after a trophy-filled spell with both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
Once the medical is successfully completed and the paperwork signed, Alaba will officially become a new Udinese player.
