According to a recent update shared by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, David Alaba will leave Real Madrid CF as a free agent, confirming long-standing expectations that the club would not renew his contract beyond summer 2026.
Earlier reports from Softfootball had already suggested that Los Blancos did not intend to extend Alaba’s stay, with the defender now preparing to bring his Madrid chapter to an end after five seasons in Spain.
Romano revealed:
David Alaba, expected to leave Real Madrid as a free agent as reported since November. Several clubs already approached the Austrian defender, out of contract at Real Madrid.

The 33-year-old arrived from FC Bayern Munich on a free transfer in 2021 and quickly became an important figure in the squad. He played a key role in Real Madrid’s trophy-winning 2021/22 campaign, helping the club secure both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League title.

However, Alaba’s later years in Madrid were heavily impacted by a serious ACL injury suffered in late 2023. The setback limited his availability and made it difficult for him to regain a consistent starting role in the team.
Despite his injury struggles, Alaba remains a respected and experienced defender with elite pedigree. Several clubs are reportedly monitoring his situation and have already made approaches, viewing him as an attractive low-cost option capable of adding leadership, versatility, and top-level experience.
Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappe has reacted strongly to Real Madrid’s recent Champions League quarter-final elimination against Bayern Munich. The French forward called for accountability and demanded a response after the disappointing European exit.
Alaba’s departure signals another major transition moment for Real Madrid as the club continues reshaping its squad for the future.
