Arthur Okonkwo experienced a special milestone on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, as the Charlton Athletic goalkeeper trained on Nigerian soil for the first time after joining the Super Eagles camp in Uyo.
Included earlier this month in Éric Chelle’s squad for the AFCON 2027 qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea‑Bissau, Okonkwo’s arrival marks an important moment in his international journey. He linked up with his fellow goalkeepers and the rest of the squad on the training pitch, aiming to make a strong impression during this international window.
Nwabali Returns to Camp
Stanley Nwabali has also returned to camp and took part in the team’s first training session under the floodlights. The Chippa United goalkeeper reunited with his teammates as Chelle’s staff continued preparations for the two upcoming qualifiers.
Nwabali looked sharp throughout the session, working alongside Arthur Okonkwo, with competition for the starting spot expected to be closely watched.

Super Eagles Step Up Preparations
The evening session at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium training pitch focused on recovery, allowing players to loosen up after long travel hours. Chelle and his technical crew will now increase the intensity of training, shifting attention to tactical and technical work ahead of Friday’s clash.
