The Argentine produced another trademark free-kick finish to write his name into the history books once again.
Softfootball reports that Messi’s stunning effort in the 24th minute was his 75th career free-kick goal, taking his overall tally to 930 goals. The strike also moved him to 101 goals for Inter Miami, just four days after he scored his 100th goal for the club in their 2-0 Campeones Cup victory over Cruz Azul.
The 39-year-old stepped up after being fouled just outside the penalty area and curled a left-footed effort around the wall. The ball struck the post before crossing the line, leaving San Diego goalkeeper CJ dos Santos unable to keep it out.
The latest achievement comes alongside Lionel Messi Reaching 100 Goals for Inter Miami With 155 G/A in 114 Games, underlining the extraordinary attacking influence he has had since arriving in South Florida. Messi has now scored 101 goals for the club across competitions, while continuing to provide goals and assists at an impressive rate.
However, Messi’s milestone could not inspire Inter Miami to victory. San Diego twice came from behind, with Anders Dreyer scoring both goals for the visitors, including the 82nd-minute equaliser after Luis Suárez had put Miami ahead.
Messi’s latest strike takes him another step closer to the unprecedented 1,000-goal landmark, adding another chapter to one of football’s most remarkable careers.
