Africa’s participation at the 2026 FIFA U‑20 Women’s World Cup in Poland has narrowed significantly, with Tanzania, Benin, and Ghana all crashing out of the tournament.

This leaves the Falconets of Nigeria as the only African team still alive, heading into their decisive Group F match against New Caledonia on Sunday, 13 September 2026.

Tanzania’s debut appearance at the tournament ended in disappointment, with three defeats from three matches:

  • 🇧🇷 Brazil 4–1 Tanzania
  • 🏴 England 5–1 Tanzania
  • 🇹🇿 Tanzania 0–6 Canada

The Twiga Stars finished bottom of Group B with 0 points, concluding their first‑ever World Cup campaign.

Benin’s historic debut also ended early, despite earning a point in their opening match:

  • 🇲🇽 Mexico 2–2 Benin
  • 🇦🇷 Argentina 8–0 Benin
  • 🇵🇱 Poland 4–1 Benin

After a promising draw against Mexico, two heavy defeats ended the road for the Amazones, who finish with 1 point from three matches.

Ghana — Group C Exit

Ghana’s campaign promised hope after their second‑match victory, but ultimately ended in familiar disappointment:

  • 🇪🇨 Ecuador 3–0 Ghana
  • 🇬🇭 Ghana 3–1 South Korea
  • 🇫🇷 France 4–0 Ghana

A win over South Korea revived their chances, but a heavy defeat to France sealed their fate. The Black Princesses finish 4th in Group C and are eliminated, marking the 8th time Ghana have exited the U‑20 Women’s World Cup at the group stage.

Nigeria — Africa’s Last Hope

With Tanzania, Benin, and Ghana out, Nigeria’s Falconets remain the continent’s sole representatives. Their final Group F match against New Caledonia on 13 September 2026 • 2:00pm WAT • Łódź is a must‑win encounter.

Softfootball has already analysed the qualification routes, and victory guarantees Nigeria a place in the Round of 16 — either by finishing second or as one of the best third‑placed teams.
