Cameroon have been crowned 2026 WAFCON champions after defeating Malawi 3–0 in a dominant final, securing their first‑ever title after coming up short in three previous attempts.
The road to the trophy makes the achievement even more remarkable. Cameroon were not initially among the teams that qualified for the tournament, but were brought in after CAF expanded the competition and used rankings to fill the additional places.
Once given the opportunity, the Indomitable Lionesses made the most of it. Marie Gisèle Ngah Manga scored twice in the final, while Ndjoah Eto added another to seal a convincing victory and secure the continental crown.
Malawi may have fallen at the final hurdle, but the Scorchers can look back on a historic campaign with pride. Playing in their first‑ever WAFCON, they defied expectations by reaching the final and proving they have the quality to compete with Africa’s leading women’s teams.
For Cameroon, however, the long wait is finally over. After three previous unsuccessful attempts, the Lionesses have now reached the top of African women’s football in spectacular fashion.
