Cyriel Dessers has credited Rangers’ resilience for their dramatic 4-2 victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park. The hosts surged ahead 2-0 within the first 14 minutes, but the visitors mounted a spirited response to claim all three points.
Vaclav Cerny pulled one back before halftime, setting the stage for Dessers’ second-half double and a late strike from Nedim Bajrami.
Speaking to Rangers TV, Dessers admitted the start was concerning. He said:
It was a weird game. If you look at the start, this cannot happen to us. We have had some emotional days so that was maybe in the legs.
Softfootball noted that despite the shaky opening, the striker emphasized the positive reaction from the squad. He added:
But if you see the way we reacted, with the mentality and character we showed, we can be happy with the win as this is a tough place to come to.
The manager’s halftime message focused on staying connected to the game through Cerny’s goal, which helped stabilize the team before the break. Dessers’ second goal marked his 20th of the season, a milestone he reached almost instinctively. He explained:
I have a very good relationship with Ridvan and he knows the types of runs I like to make. His ball was perfect and I faced the goal and I wasn’t even thinking, it was like I was on auto-pilot.
The team now turns its attention to Saturday’s match against Motherwell, aiming to reward the fans with another strong performance.
