Dessers Delighted As Rangers Secure Europa League Knockout Spot

Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers has expressed his delight after the Scottish club secured automatic qualification for the UEFA Europa League round of 16.

According to Softfootball, the Light Blues booked their place in the knockout stage following a 2-1 victory over Union Saint-Gilloise on Thursday night, with Dessers playing an important role in the win.

The Nigeria international provided the assist for Rangers’ second goal, showing excellent footwork to drive down the left before waiting for Vaclav Cerny to arrive in the box. The Czech winger then finished from Dessers’ pull-back to put Rangers ahead.

The result saw Philippe Clement’s side finish eighth in the Europa League table, allowing them to skip the knockout play-off round and advance directly to the last 16.

Speaking after the game, Dessers told Sporza that the achievement was particularly significant for a club with Rangers’ rich European history.

Dessers said.

We are indeed eighth. I just heard it on the pitch. That is special because we skip a round

This is an incredible club and the European evenings are special. It’s really great.

Dessers also revealed that his family and friends had been watching the match, adding to the significance of the occasion.
