Former Super Eagles captain Austin Okocha has called on Nigerians to support Eric Chelle as the new head coach begins his tenure with the national team.
Chelle was recently unveiled by the Nigeria Football Federation following his appointment, but his arrival has been met with criticism from some supporters and football pundits.
Softfootball reports that Okocha believes the new coach deserves an opportunity to implement his ideas and prove himself before being judged.
Speaking on Lagos Talks FM, the former Nigeria midfielder urged fans to support both Chelle and the NFF as the team seeks to revive its World Cup qualification campaign.
We should give him a chance to do his job. We should support him as well as the NFF.
The former captain also stressed that the ultimate measure of Chelle’s success will be results, particularly Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Okocha acknowledged the pressure that comes with managing the Super Eagles but believes everyone involved should work together towards the same objective.
Chelle will now look to silence his critics by delivering positive results with the national team.
