Ruud van Nistelrooy has admitted that becoming Manchester United’s permanent manager remains one of his long-term ambitions, despite preparing to hand over to Ruben Amorim.
Softfootball understands that the Dutchman made the admission ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Leicester City, which will be his final game as interim manager before Amorim officially begins work at Old Trafford next week.
Van Nistelrooy took charge following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag on October 28 and is set to step aside when Amorim assumes his duties on November 11.
The former United striker explained that he accepted the assistant manager’s role because he wanted to be part of the club’s journey, adding that he still has ambitions to become a head coach in the future.
He also revealed that his four-match spell as interim boss has not changed his long-term plans, insisting he remains committed to helping Manchester United continue its rebuilding process.
Van Nistelrooy concluded by admitting that managing Manchester United permanently would be a dream he hopes to achieve someday.
