Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit believes the Gunners still lack the quality and depth needed to consistently compete for major honours.
The former France international insists Mikel Arteta’s side must strengthen their attacking midfield options, arguing that creativity remains one of the team’s biggest weaknesses.

Softfootball understands that Petit feels Arsenal’s current midfield lacks the creative spark needed to consistently supply the attack, especially when key players are unavailable.
According to the 1998 Premier League and FA Cup winner, a midfield trio of Declan Rice, Mikel Merino and Leandro Trossard does not provide enough creativity, while Kai Havertz’s movement across the pitch means there is no consistent link to the striker.

Petit also suggested that Emile Smith Rowe could have provided a solution before his move to Fulham.
The Frenchman added that although Arsenal possess a strong squad, they do not have enough top-quality players capable of maintaining the team’s level when injuries affect key members of the squad.
He pointed out that unlike Manchester City and Liverpool, Arsenal struggle whenever important players in the spine of the team are sidelined.
Petit also admitted he has not been overly impressed by Arsenal’s recent signings, describing their performances as average, although he stopped short of singling out any individual for criticism.
Arsenal have finished runners-up to Manchester City in each of the last two Premier League campaigns and are once again among the favourites to challenge for the title this season.
