Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has criticised Nigerian defender Bright Osayi-Samuel for what he described as a selfish decision during his side’s 2-0 victory over Bodrum FK.

Osayi-Samuel played the full 90 minutes as Fenerbahce returned to winning ways after enduring a three-match winless run.

Despite the convincing result, Softfootball understands that Mourinho was left frustrated by his team’s inability to convert several scoring opportunities, particularly pointing to one moment involving the Super Eagles defender.

The Portuguese tactician felt Osayi-Samuel made the wrong decision in the first half when he chose to shoot instead of passing to a teammate who was in a better position to score.

Mourinho admitted he was pleased with the three points but insisted his side should have wrapped up the contest much earlier.

According to the experienced manager, Fenerbahce created enough chances to put the game beyond their opponents before the break but failed to do so because of poor decision-making in the final third.

He noted that while the opening goal came from a rebound and Irfan Can Kahveci produced an impressive volley, Osayi-Samuel’s choice to go alone instead of creating an easier opportunity for a teammate prevented the team from killing off the match early.

Although Mourinho’s comments singled out the Nigerian, Fenerbahce still secured a valuable victory that ended their recent poor run and boosted confidence ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
