The strike was Agu’s second goal in seven Bundesliga appearances this season, underlining his growing influence at both ends of the pitch.

Werder Bremen tightened their grip on the contest after extending their lead to 3-1 before Wolfsburg were reduced to 10 men following a red card in the 68th minute.

The visitors eventually wrapped up an impressive 4-2 victory to record their third consecutive away win in the league.

The result also stretched Werder Bremen’s unbeaten away run to six matches and lifted them to eighth place on the Bundesliga table with 11 points from seven games.

Agu, who remains eligible to represent Nigeria despite featuring for Germany at U-21 level, is continuing to attract attention with his consistent performances in the German top flight.
