Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface delivered another match-winning performance as Bayer Leverkusen defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 in Saturday’s Bundesliga clash.
Softfootball understands that the Nigerian forward showed remarkable resilience after enduring the Super Eagles’ 16-hour ordeal at Al Abraq Airport in Libya, putting the difficult experience behind him to inspire Leverkusen to an important away victory.
Boniface had the chance to hand the visitors an early lead but saw his penalty saved in the opening stages of the contest.

Frankfurt capitalised on that miss by taking the lead in the 16th minute through league top scorer Omar Marmoush, who converted from the penalty spot for his ninth Bundesliga goal of the season.
Leverkusen responded positively, with Robert Andrich finishing off a slick passing move in the 25th minute to restore parity before later striking the post with a powerful effort.
Boniface eventually made amends for his earlier penalty miss, rising highest at the far post to head home the winning goal after Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp failed to deal with a dangerous cross into the box.
The goal capped an impressive display from the Nigerian, who once again proved decisive for Xabi Alonso’s side.
His compatriot Nathan Tella also featured in the encounter, replacing Jeremie Frimpong in the 80th minute as Leverkusen held on to claim all three points and maintain their strong start to the Bundesliga season.
