Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has condemned the treatment received by the Nigerian team after arriving in Libya ahead of Tuesday’s 2025 AFCON qualifier.

The Nigerian delegation was reportedly left stranded at Al Abaq Airport for several hours without adequate support from Libyan officials. The team had travelled for the crucial second-leg encounter against Libya, which was scheduled to take place at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium in Benina.

Reports indicated that the Super Eagles were unexpectedly diverted to another city upon arrival, creating logistical challenges for the players and officials.

Reacting to the situation on his official X account, the Bayer Leverkusen forward expressed frustration over the conditions faced by the team, revealing that they were left without basic necessities.

Been at the airport for almost 13 hours, no food, no Wi-Fi, nowhere to sleep. Africa, we can do better,

Boniface wrote.

The incident has generated widespread reactions among football fans, with many questioning the treatment of the Nigerian delegation ahead of such an important continental qualifier.

Softfootball understands that the Super Eagles camp was left disappointed by the prolonged delay and lack of hospitality upon arrival in Libya. Boniface’s comments have further highlighted concerns about player welfare and travel arrangements in African football, with many observers calling for higher standards and better organization during international fixtures across the continent.
